Deck Sealing

Water-repellent sealing for wood decks that shields boards from the moisture, graying, and rot that Pacific Northwest weather drives.

What This Service Involves

Wood decks in our climate live under near-constant damp, and unsealed boards quickly turn gray, cup, and grow slick with algae. Once the deck is cleaned and brightened back to fresh wood, we apply a penetrating water repellent that soaks into the grain and pushes rain away. This keeps the boards dimensionally stable, slows the graying, and dramatically reduces the slippery film that makes wet decks hazardous. Sealing after cleaning is the step that turns a one-time refresh into lasting protection through our long rainy season.

Benefits

Repels rain so boards resist swelling, cupping, and splitting; Slows the gray, weathered look caused by UV and moisture; Reduces slippery algae growth on the walking surface; Helps guard fasteners and framing from prolonged wetness; Preserves the wood's natural tone between maintenance cycles

Our Process

1) Clean the deck and remove mildew, algae, and surface graying; 2) Brighten and neutralize the wood, then let it dry to spec; 3) Apply a clear or lightly tinted penetrating sealer along the grain; 4) Back-brush for even absorption and allow it to cure before use

What Affects the Cost

Total deck area including stairs, rails, and skirting; Species and age of the wood and how thirsty it is; Whether a clear repellent or a tinted product is chosen; Amount of cleaning, brightening, or stripping required first; Railing detail and spindle count that add labor time

Best Time of Year

Seal decks in summer during a dependable dry spell so the wood is fully dry and the repellent can penetrate and set.
